About NourishMum

Hello, I’m Elea, and I live in Altea, a small coastal town in the province of Alicante, Spain.

For many years I worked in the world of advertising, marketing and public relations, first in agencies and later within companies. It was an intense period of my life, full of learning, interesting projects and work with major brands.

But as often happens in life, there came a moment when I felt the need to pause and rethink many things.

At one point I decided to start my own business. That experience didn’t turn out quite as I had hoped, although it taught me a great deal.

Later I returned to the world of marketing, working again in communications.

Then motherhood arrived, and everything began to change.
My priorities slowly shifted, and I made the decision to step away from the demanding pace of marketing to focus on my family and my new life as a mother.

And it was at that moment that a concern appeared which would eventually become a very important part of my life: how to nourish my family well.

When food becomes a real concern

Since becoming a mother, one of the things that has taken the most time, energy, and sometimes even stress, has been trying to provide truly nourishing food for my family.

As we learn more about nutrition, we also discover something that can feel overwhelming: the sheer amount of information available.

Different diets.
  Conflicting advice.
Experts who say completely different things.
Over the years I’ve explored many different approaches.  I’ve taken courses and followed nutritionists from different schools of thought.

And if I’m honest, there were moments when all that information even started to create a sense of anxiety, because it felt as though you could never learn enough or get everything right.

There was always something new to worry about.

Pausing and returning to common sense

At some point I decided to do something very simple.
I stopped.
I took a breath.
And I began looking at food again from a calmer place.

I kept reading.
  I kept learning.
But I also began to rely more on common sense.

Gradually I realised that for generations, many cultures have eaten in a much simpler way.
Real food.
  Recognisable ingredients.
  Home cooking.

And that was when I began to find an approach to food that felt far more natural and sustainable.

How we eat at home

The approach I follow today when feeding my family is actually quite simple: we try to cook real food.

By that I mean ingredients that are as close as possible to how you might find them in nature:

  • meat
  • fish
  • eggs
  • fruit
  • vegetables
  • nuts
  • natural fats

I try to avoid ultra-processed foods as much as possible, especially products filled with ingredients that most of us wouldn’t even recognise.

When I do buy something packaged, I try to read the label carefully and choose products with as few ingredients as possible, and ideally ones that are natural.

A very simple example:
if I buy tinned tomatoes, I try to choose a brand where the only ingredient is tomato.
Tomato and salt would also be perfectly acceptable, and even tomato, salt and citric acid (a common preservative).

Small choices like this can make a meaningful difference over time.

What NourishMum is about

NourishMum was born from this journey.
It is a space where I share what I continue learning about nutrition, traditional cooking and feeding a family well, in a way that is practical and approachable.

Here you will find:

  • nourishing recipes for everyday life
  • traditional and sometimes ancestral ways of cooking
  • simple kitchen tips that have stood the test of time
  • ideas to make family meals easier and more meaningful

I certainly don’t pretend to have all the answers.
But I do promise to keep learning, reading and exploring this fascinating topic of food and health.
And to share what I discover along the way.

If you’ve ever felt the same

If you’ve ever felt confused by all the conflicting nutrition advice…

If you worry about feeding your family well…

If this topic sometimes leaves you with more questions than answers…

you’re not alone.

It’s completely natural to care about something so important.
And that concern is often the first step towards making positive changes.

Learning together

NourishMum is, in many ways, a kind of open notebook where I gather recipes, ideas and reflections about real food and family nutrition.

If anything I share here helps even one person, I will consider it worthwhile.

For my part, I will keep learning and sharing what I discover.

Because I truly believe that small changes in the way we eat can make a meaningful difference to the health and wellbeing of our families.

Would you like to join me on this journey?

Understanding what we eat, so we can take better care of our health.
